My brother works at NASA on this robot named Robonaut 2. I did a portrait, but I cheated-I used a photograph. The image quality isn't great, and there is a glare.

Two Days of Leisure
Before I lapse into full summer mode, I took two days off after school ended. I missed QAA again this week as I was trying to get a few last minute things completed before the end of the year. I did go to John's, however, and then to Emmy.
John helped me immensely on Wednesday. We worked on the construction of the head and the figure. I did a few charcoals. Although the face is still out of proportion, I at least had the features place correctly. It was about a 20 minute study. The model's cheeks are way too wide, but I didn't measure. They are the correct shape, though. I did well with my study of the legs.
On Thursday, at ARA, we had a great model, who easily divided into four. I completed a gestural construct, but I don't really like it. Next time I will use a thinner pencil and draw in a larger scale.

One More Week Until Vacation!!
I missed my QAA drop in this week simply because I had too much school work to finish up before our last day, which is next Wednesday! But I did manage to go to John's class and contend with a red pastel:
The battle was long-about an hour and a half, and the war not won, but I managed a likeness even though the proportions aren't great. The turf of the battle, newsprint, gave the advantage to the pastel. I hate pastels, and I always have, so this animosity will likely continue. I'd rather work in charcoal. I didn't measure at all, and I should have. I will use the techniques Emmy worked on with me at ARA.
The following is the second go at the same model, same pose-about 3-4 hours of work. Slow process, but good proportions:
This is a little messy, but I haven't learned the next step, which consists of moving the gestural construct to a clean sheet of paper.

ARA with Emmy
Learning how to complete a general construct with Emmy at the ARA. This is about 2 hours of work. Very different from my usual process and style, but I think it is VERY good practice for learning proportions.
QAA Study of Legs
This week with John, we continued to draw. None of my work was good, so I am not posting it. The following is a drawing I did at QAA. I drew the entire figure first and it came out well, except for the legs, so I studied the position of the legs.

Portrait Class: Week 19
More drawings. Black and white chalk and then a sharpie.
First time incorporating white chalk:
First time incorporating white chalk:
Still some drawing issues, but it was getting there.
After the chalk, we did some scribbles to loosen up our strokes:
Each scribble was a few seconds to a few minutes. I did about 8.....

QAA Sunburned Arm
This was a two week study-3 hour pose. I spent the first hour and a half painting a block-in with burnt umber. The second day, the second hour and a half, I added color. The experience of blocking in and figuring things out before I attempted color was worth it. I like the composition of this one, but I may tone down the background by adding a green or black wash.
